What's the Difference Between Kia Sorento and Kia Telluride?

Kia Sorento vs. Kia Telluride

Kia Telluride is slightly more powerful, but Kia Sorento has more engine options.

It's got a 291-horsepower, six-cylinder engine capable of 262 pound-feet of torque, while the latter features 2.4-liter I4 and 3.3-liter V6 options. The first puts out 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while the second produces 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet. Kia Telluride is the raw-power option; Kia Sorento offers both high-efficiency and high-performance options.

Both Kia Sorento and Kia Telluride get great fuel economy.

The former has a selection of electronically controlled six- and eight-speed auto transmissions, while the latter has a standard electronically controlled eight-speed auto. Kia Sorento can achieve up to 22 mpg in a city like St. Louis and 29 mpg down the highway to St. Charles, according to EPA estimates. Kia Telluride can get up to 20 mpg, 26 mpg, and 23 mpg respectively in FWD.

Capability comes standard in both Kia Sorento and Kia Telluride.

The first makes a Dynamax All-Wheel Drive system with a locking center differential and torque vectoring cornering control available. The second offers optional Active On-Demand AWD. Both make their respective crossovers confident handlers over rough terrain and through foul weather.

Kia Sorento and Kia Telluride are fully loaded when it comes to safety and driver-assist features.

The list of driver aids standard and available throughout the Kia Sorento lineup is long. They include hill-start assist and downhill brake controls and a slate of Kia Drive Wise technology that incorporates blind-spot, cross-traffic, and forward collision-avoidance assist, a blind-spot view monitor, forward collision warning, forward and reverse parking distance warnings, lane following assist, and a rear-view monitor with dynamic parking guidance.

Both are well-equipped in-cabin; Kia Telluride has a few luxury touches.

Kia Sorento features amenities such as an available panoramic sunroof and power sunshade, a choice among cloth with YES Essentials, leather, and premium Nappa leather seats, available front-seat heating and ventilation, an optionally heated second row, available dual-zone auto temp control, and an auto de-fogger.

Kia Telluride has two sunroof options, single and dual, along with a choice among SOFINO, leather, and Nappa leather seat trims. Front seats are available heated and ventilated, as are second-row seats, and an available dual-zone automatic temperature control flanks rear automatic temperature control.

Both models have tons of configurable cargo space; Kia Telluride can take on a bit more.

Kia Sorento makes up to 73.0 cubic feet of space available for cargo, owing to a selection of 40/20/40-split, folding second-row seating, a second row that slides and auto-folds, or a 50/50-split third-row seat that folds. You can access the hold using an optional Smart Power Liftgate, which has a height you can program. Looking to pack extras? Low-profile roof rails are offered, and you can tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

Kia Telluride features 87.0 cubic feet of cargo space as well as 60/40 remote split-folding bench and 50/50 remote split-folding captain chair options in the second row. It's comparably equipped for cargo access and adding essentials and can tow as much as 5,000 pounds.

Kia Sorento and Kia Telluride are both tech-savvy; Kia Telluride gets an infotainment edge.

Both models feature UVO infotainment, optional voice-command navigation, SiriusXM and HD Radio capabilities, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone support, USB and wireless phone charging options, 10-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound and more. Kia Telluride has a larger 10.25-inch display.
